Phoenix Elysiums

The Laws of Elysium

  • Elysium is considered neutral, sanctified ground separate from sect or politics.
  • Violence of any kind is strictly forbidden upon Elysium grounds. (In some cities, the Courtesies extend this protection to include passage to or from Elysium.) The Phoenix Elysiums discourage the use of any disciplines, except to protect the Masquerade. Nosferatu are permitted to adjust their appearance to avoid breaking the Masquerade.
  • The presence of Moon-beasts (werewolves), Wild Ones (fae), or those who have drunk the heart’s blood (diablerists) are forbidden.
  • None may destroy art located within Elysium.
  • All hunting is prohibited in the area surrounding an Elysium.
  • The Elysium and its contents are sacrosanct and shall not be damaged.
  • The Keeper’s word is law on these grounds, and he has traditionally been given authority punish or execute anyone who violates Elysium.

The Heard Museum

This prestigious Native American art museum is elegant, air-conditioned, and architecturally serene — ideal for Camarilla politics. Prince Malcolm Drake holds court here on rare occasions, preferring its marble galleries and manicured courtyards. Its mix of ancestral reverence and modern culture makes it a neutral ground for disputes.

Since its founding in 1929, the Heard Museum, a private nonprofit organization, has grown in size and stature to become recognized internationally for the quality of its collections, world class exhibitions, educational programming and unmatched festivals. It consists of 12 galleries featuring American Indian art and exhibitions, an outdoor sculpture gallery, a world-class museum shop and an outdoor café.

Dedicated to the advancement of American Indian art, the Heard successfully presents the stories of American Indian people from a first-person perspective as well as exhibitions that showcase the beauty and vitality of traditional and contemporary art. The Heard Museum is supported, in part, by the generosity of Heard Museum members and donors, the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture.

The Monroe Abbey

Once a ruined Catholic church from the late 1800s, now a dramatic baroque event space run by a Ghoul loyal to the local Brujah Harpy. Dark red lighting, stained glass, and restored altar arches make it ideal for brooding monologues and poetic declarations.

Rooted in history and reborn through fire, this iconic space has been transformed into a tranquil garden courtyard—open to the stars, framed by living trees, and cradled by the original century-old walls. Once a place of gathering, it remains so—now reimagined for celebration.

Tucked within its storied architecture, you'll find a luminous gallery space for indoor events and a loft that offers a breathtaking overlook of the courtyard below. Seamlessly integrated modern elements—elevators, stairways, restrooms, and a commercial kitchen—ensure beauty and comfort coexist.

The Orpheum Theatre

Lavishly restored, the Orpheum is used for special Camarilla events — court gatherings, ceremonies, declarations of boons or punishments. Its acoustics and gilded Spanish baroque décor echo the heyday of Toreador glamour and Masquerade showmanship.

Opening on January 5, 1929, it was the pride of Phoenix, a town of 48,000. It had 1,800 seats and an early form of air conditioning, which made it the place to see an be seen in the city! Its 101 feet of stage width and 28 feet of depth made the Orpheum the only theatre between Los Angeles and Denver able to handle the traveling vaudeville shows that changed weekly.

Designed by architects Lescher & Mahoney, the theatre was built for $750,000 by Jo E. Rickards and Harry Nace. The Orpheum was designed in the atmospheric style, with the audience sitting in a garden surrounded by Spanish-style buildings, murals of mountains, and forests, under puffy white clouds moving across a deep blue domed sky.

Burton Barr Central Library

A sterile, five-story modern library housing historical records, climate-controlled special collections, and technological archives. Tremere often gather here for research and minor conclaves. Nosferatu also favor its discreet tunnels to the sewer systems.

The Burton Barr Central Library is the central library of Phoenix, Arizona. It is the flagship location and administrative headquarters for the Phoenix Public Library. It was named in honor of Burton Barr, the Republican Majority Leader in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1966 to 1986. The library houses a collection of 1 million volumes.

The building was funded by a 1988 bond issue and replaced a nearby 1950s-era facility on McDowell Road that is now part of the Phoenix Art Museum.

The design for the Burton Barr Central Library was a collaboration between DWL Architects and Will Bruder. The five-story building opened in May 1995 and is 280,000 square feet

The Ashlight Lounge

The Ashlight Lounge stands as one of Phoenix’s most prestigious and enigmatic Elysium sites — a jewel of Camarilla refinement hidden behind the restored façade of a century-old bank in downtown Scottsdale. From the outside, the building appears stately but unassuming, its neoclassical stonework hinting at a bygone era. Inside, however, the transformation is breathtaking: rich velvet furnishings, polished marble floors, and a sweeping chandelier cast a warm, golden glow across intimate seating spaces designed for whispered conversations. The bar is legendary among Kindred, stocked with vintages that never see mortal lips, while the city skyline beyond the arched windows serves as a constant reminder of the domain’s reach.

For the city’s undead elite, the Ashlight is more than a meeting place — it is a stage where reputations are forged and shattered. The Prince frequently hosts formal gatherings here, and it’s said that more alliances are sealed in the Lounge’s shadowed booths than in any Primogen council chamber. Yet beneath its polished veneer lies an aura of intrigue; the atmosphere is thick with secrets, and every conversation feels like part of a larger game. Deep beneath the lounge, in the converted vaults of the original bank, lies one of its most closely guarded features: a private dueling arena. This subterranean chamber, lined with obsidian panels and lit by crimson sconces, is where disputes too serious for words are settled under strict Elysium protocol. Duels here are sanctioned by the Prince himself — a brutal but controlled tradition that ensures honor is preserved without risking the Masquerade. Even among elders, the Ashlight commands a certain reverence, for while the upper floors hum with political maneuvering, the true balance of power is often decided in the blood-soaked silence below.
